Human Candy?

Well it sure has been a while between updates.

This is just a quick to let you know things are slowly happening behind the scenes and while the site is still a little way off of being unveiled as a fully functioning entity, things are in full swing… Well as much as can be, between working day jobs and what not.

Many people have been asking me what the site is about and what will be happening here, so I guess I really should enlighten you all… Without giving too much away, so as not to look like an arse down the line if it doesn’t all go to plan.

Human Candy started out with a simple idea, putting interesting designs on clothing and other products that I would like wear. Since the initial conception many years ago, the idea has grown and become something of a monster in my own mind. At times I wasn’t sure which direction to take it and had many long periods of downtime, just trying to formulate a plan and find the elusive starting point. Then finally after many long *COUGH* years *COUGH* I got the ideas sorted and set about building the dream, but what is that dream… Well in short, I want Human Candy to be a creative powerhouse bringing art to the masses, promoting it in all its forms while creating fun and unique things in house too. I hope Human Candy will be an outlet for creative, talented minds to ply their trade and find some recognition in a world that far too often shoves aside and disregards the artists that make our lives so rich and interesting… That is what Human Candy is and it is for the art and artist that make our life sweeter.

Show some love.

Dark days ahead

Just what has become (is becoming and will become) of Australia?

This is a country I was once proud to call my home, a country full of hopes and dreams. A place where people could live content in the knowledge that they and their children would be safe to live and grow within the confines of it’s beautiful borders. Once Australia was a place where respect, hard work, a desire to take on challenges and learn was an integral part of being an “Aussie”. We fought for what was right and gave everyone a fair go, that is what it was to be an Australian and it could be found in all walks of life. Yet now Australia is on a slippery slope into a cesspool of violence, stupidity, apathy and racism and I fear it may be too late to turn back.

Now days the “Bogan” is glorified, violence and racism run rampant and honest hard working people are the ones who pay the price. Not a day goes by where I don’t hear about a drunk driver causing carnage on the streets, someone being shot or stabbed during a night out, children / teens sexually harassing others or international students being abused? It leaves me to ask the question why? Why don’t I feel safe in my own country any more? Why can’t foreigners visit without some lowlife insulting them? Why are the words Australia and Australian something to cringe about?

Why? I’ll tell you why, lack of respect. We are a nation full of self-serving individuals who only look out for ourselves but how did we come to be this way? Well, for one thing there is no one out there to respect any more, that is one reason. Gone are the days where police had a visible presence on our streets, gone are the days where being punished meant something and gone are the days where government made effective long-term plans for the future.

The Australian governments (and other authorities) willingness to allow a close enough is good enough attitude, provides a scary vision of what our future will be. One such example is the push for Internet censorship. This is a band-aid solution designed to play off peoples fears and will only cause more problems than it will solve. Pushing the “bad guys” further underground does not stop the problem it only gives them new, possibly dangerous outlets. Why not invest this money in something that is needed, like police or education? Give the people of Australia someone to respect, someone to look up to, someone to make us feel safe again while showing us some respect in turn.

Ignorant schemes such as these are a big part of the problems we have in Australia. When we should be educating children and parents about the dangers they face on the Internet, on the street, in the home. When we should be hunting and punishing those who bring misery and danger into our lives. When we should be respecting everyone in (and out) of our nation, our government does the exact opposite, so why should the people of Australia do any different.

Over the last few days I’ve been working on getting this site up and running, granted at the moment it’s not much and further versions / revisions are in the works but from here on in it will be more of a slow evolution.

The focus now is to start getting some work up for you all to see, hopefully from a variety of artists all adding their own unique flavour to the mix.

Artists? Human Candy? What and where are these candied artist of which you speak? All in good time.

Stay tuned
